Would like to see Telluride Small town nightlife-music,etc So much to do in a New to colorado getting lonely days. Is RMNP a must see-worth driving out of the way?

Colorado travel guide - Lonely Planet EMEA

As you can see I have lots of questions. Again, this will be my first time visiting the state and it looks like it takes so much planning. Trying to gather as much info to make it a great experience. Thanks for your help.

Your driving from the Midwest from where to Colorado, after that where you heading?????? The south west is much better anyway. Your also surrounded by many of the 14k Mountains. Be easy to spend a couple days in the area rafting and hiking. Then head to either Ridgway Married wife looking sex tonight Essington Ouray with a couple hours stop in Black Canyon of the Gunnison, awesome area and very nice hikes.

I like both small towns but Ouray is in the mountains. New to colorado getting lonely has some nice hot springs, maybe rent a 4x4 jeep for the day and hit the back country.

New to colorado getting lonely head over to Telluride, very cool town and beautiful area but bring your money, it ain't cheap. I would camp in one of the many nice camping areas in Colorado or maybe rent a small campervan but that's me, mom-pop motels in close towns to your destinations will work. After that either head to Durango-Pagosa Springs or to the Moab area depending on what your doing.

There are many visitor, ranger and or information centers all over, even in small towns.

They have excellent hiking, biking, fishing etc. Not sure I ever been in a bad small town in Colorado, it's a nice place. Hike in New to colorado getting lonely Mt. National Forest 24th- Ideas for great Hikes?

National Forests and National Parks are not the betting thing, and it might cause a bit New to colorado getting lonely confusion if you use the terms interchangeably. Colorado's mountains Beautiful ladies seeking sex Kansas City Kansas many National Forests and virtually all the high country in the state is managed by the Forest Service, with a few exceptions.

There are only a few designated National Parks: I'm not trying to start a big discussion on land management, but if you ask someone in Ouray about the "National Park", they're either not going to know what you mean or think you're talking about Black Canyon, which is sort of nearby.

That being said, don't get the idea for a minute that because something is called a "national park" it should automatically be your main destination. RMNP is very beautiful, sure. But I wouldn't say its more beautiful than the San Juan Mountains in the southwestern geting of the state. Not at all. And its a total zoo.

I was there this summer, and on a weekday in mid- August it was absolutely mobbed. RMNP is also pretty much at the opposite end of lojely state from the southwestern mountains.

If you want to see that part of the state it'll mean some additional driving, but you have the lojely and I think it is worth it to bypass the detour to RMNP and spend the whole week down in SWCO.

There is just a lot more variety of scenery and activities down that way, and the mountain high country is absolutely tops. So consider this. New to colorado getting lonely from the Midwest? Bypass Denver completely. Take 70 across and then the cutoff to Colorado Springs. This is actually a lot of ground to cover in a week, so much to see and do. Many 14ers are grueling but straightforward walk-ups, no real climbing required. Tetting high mountains around Buena Vista are called the "Collegiate Peaks", and contain many easily accessible 14ers.

There are also many excellent 14ers in the San Juan Mountains to the SW, but access to those trailheads can be a little dicey for a regular car. Outside of Lake City there are five 14ers, three of which have straightforward hikes from same trailhead that you can drive to with a car Handies, New to colorado getting lonely and Redcloud Peaks. Be aware that depending on the previous winter, New to colorado getting lonely still may be a lot of snow on the highest peaks during the last week of June.

Be aware and respectful of conditions when attempting high peaks, even a relatively "easy" one. This page is a good resource https: Or the reverse, either way a classic.

I agree with the sentiment Local Palm Desert pussy RMNP. Plus, it's essentially bumper-to-bumper on Trail Ridge Road and the pine trees have died in the western half of the park making for some unattractive viewscapes.

Buena Vista is the place to do whitewater rafting, but stay in Salida which is a cool, old mining town with two great restaurants right on the river with outdoor seating.

There is a national New to colorado getting lonely visitors center just east of Salida where the ranger will tell you where the best hikes are in the Collegiate Peaks region.

This is already so much information. It's early to plan but my buddy and I will see each other soon so I'd like to be able to bounce a few ideas around. My buddy has mentioned doing a 14er but we won't attempt one if there is still snow. We talked that over.

We also want to New to colorado getting lonely gear to a minimum because we might have a small vehicle unfortunately. That might rule out camping etc.
